The nonstop calls from Collection Company of America were making me sick until I sent one letter.

Honestly, I hit my limit last week. Collection Company of America was calling me 10 times a day, sometimes as early as 7:00 AM. They left voicemails saying they would "send the sheriff" if I didn't pay immediately. I was terrified to answer my phone.

I finally did some research because I couldn't live like that anymore. Turns out, threatening arrest over a normal debt is a huge no-no under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. They also never sent me a written notice of the debt, which they are legally required to do.

I followed a guide to send a formal cease and desist letter via certified mail demanding they validate the debt. The calls stopped within 48 hours.

Don't let these bullies scare you. If you are dealing with this specific company, read this breakdown of exactly what they are doing wrong and how to stop them:

You don't have to just take the abuse. There are actual laws to protect us.
