It's better to choose private transfer or taxi from Howrah Station to Sonagachi?

I’ll have two huge suitcases full of books and personal belongings, so local buses or commuter trains — which are usually packed to the brim — are definitely not an option. I just won’t be able to squeeze in with all that luggage. How safe is it to take a regular taxi from the station? I’m worried about getting scammed with a broken meter or overcharged fares. Is it even worth trying to negotiate on the spot if you don’t really know the city, or is it better to avoid that altogether?

And, if you don't want to spend half an hour bargaining the price, it's even worse. These local drivers are well aware of how to take advantage of tourists who are not familiar with the price. They might even try to double the fare at the end of the trip. So, I think the easiest way for the Howrah Railway Station to Sonagachi distance to be covered is by a car being booked through GetTransfer. I did this last summer and it was a great relief to me. You can choose a vehicle that meets your requirements and has a nice boot, and even if you get stuck in traffic for an extra hour, the fare will remain unchanged. Furthermore, if you add a South Park Street Cemetery visit to your order, the driver will stay with you while you take a few photos. By the way, are you planning to stay there for the entire semester or just come for a short course?
