Has anyone here actually needed roadside recovery late at night?

I was driving back after visiting relatives and my car started making this strange ticking noise near a signal. At first I ignored it because the car was still moving fine, but then the temperature warning came on and within minutes smoke started coming from the front. I pulled over immediately and honestly just sat there confused for a bit because it was already close to midnight and the road was pretty empty. I tried calling a mechanic I know but he didn’t answer, so I started searching online while stressing out in the car. I’ve never used a car recovery service in Sharjah before, so I wasn’t sure what’s normal in terms of waiting time or charges. Some websites looked sketchy and others had mixed reviews, which made me even more unsure because when you’re stranded you don’t really have time to compare properly. Eventually I found someone who came and towed the car safely, but the experience made me realize how unprepared I actually was. Now I’m thinking maybe everyone should keep at least one trusted recovery contact saved in their phone because these things happen out of nowhere. What surprised me most was how calm the recovery driver was while I was completely panicking. He said most breakdowns at night happen because people ignore small warning signs for too long, which is probably true in my case too. Just curious if anyone else here had a similar experience and how you handled it, especially if it happened on a highway or somewhere far from home because I genuinely don’t think I would’ve known what to do alone.
