Why are Date Palms culturally important?

The Date Palms are culturally central to the dry parts of the world, because they represent life, survival and success. Nothing is wasted; part of the tree fronds are used as shelter, trunk as lumber, and fruit as food. They form the basis of agricultural culture and cuisine in North Africa and the Middle East.
