What are the best plants to attract humming-birds? (Searching something special)

I am sick of hanging plastic feeders on them and would like to build a natural runway of the pollinators in my backyard. Somebody said that Crocosmia is the hummingbird flower since the flowers are tubular. Has anyone any experience of this? I had gone to the abodelook section of garden tools and accessories to prepare my flower beds, and I am tempted to pick up some bulbs. Are they fast growing or shall I have to plough a ton of them before I can get that lush appearance?
